Program

Viriditas is one of the central images in Hildegard von Bingen’s works: the literal green of plants, the vitality and verdure of Nature, and a metaphor for spiritual and physical health. We open our program with a Hildegard chant, followed by two modern works based upon her writings.

Birds in every color of the rainbow are a popular subject for poets and composers. We start this section with a Renaissance duet, followed by Ravel’s metaphorical birds in the colors of the French flag, and end with Stanford’s own arrangement of his beloved classic.

The sky at night can be alive with the shimmer of northern lights, or the twinkling of stars. By day, it shifts in color from sunrise to daylight to sunset.
